Insidious has volunteered to host the Summer 2005 Day of Zeux. The competition will tentatively be held on Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 1PM EST/6PM GMT. With ZzCrook's assistance, he has also set up a very impressive DoZ page in record time, which you can access by clicking on these magic words: Summer 2005 Day of Zeux.

Also, I will once again be hosting the Christmas 2005 Day of Zeux. The tentative date for that is Monday, December 26, 2005, at 12PM EST/5PM GMT, and the page can be found at the same place as last time: http://doz.digitalmzx.com/.

All the DoZs are all lined up. Get ready to rock.

<@Tixus> Anyway, I set the year to 1988 for some reason.
<@Tixus> And set the microwave to run for a minute and 28 seconds.
<@Tixus> But it failed to send me back in time, and I was disappointed.

Haha. I think you'll be fine.

It's RoSS and that summer MZXO I'm worried about. It's all fun and games for the first week. Then it just begins to consume your life. :D

He means EDT, which is the timezone code used for EST during Daylight Savings Time. For the purposes of calculation outside the US, it is GMT -4. And 1:00 EDT is generally the best we can get that caters to the most MZXers. Ditto on a weekend date.

That won't make for a very good competition. People will be dropping out left right and center.

Also... Horray for July 2nd.

Isn't it WAY too early to be preparing for a Christmas DoZ? I mean, it's April right now! The one before that, in Summer, is in 3 months.

Considering all the important points I took into consideration last year, it wasn't that hard to pick a date this time, so I just went with it and announced it. Here are those points in case you're curious:
 • Last year, nobody wanted to DoZ in January.
 • I can't do 12/24-12/25 or 12/31-1/1, for obvious reasons.
 • 12/26-12/27 is during Christmas vacation, so lots of people ought to be able to fit that into their schedule.

Actually, changed my mind. I might enter this one after all- even though I won't get all 24 hours.

Actually, I've got an idea- why not make the DoZ start at something like 9am or 10am, july 2. That way all the july 2'ers can compete, and some people like me (specifically, in Australia with school on the second day) will be able to compete for the entire 24 hours and still get plenty of sleep before school. How about it?

Insidious, the DoZers have to stay up for 24 hours, YOU just have to wake up and announce the topic. I don't want you to take this the wrong way, have a fit, and quit your hosting position, but if you're serious about this I think waking up before noon is a reasonable sacrifice to make.

Awesome. As I see no reason now for the DoZ to start at 9AM or some ungodly hour like that, it will stay at 1PM

You message me about this nearly every day. I think you would've gotten the idea by now but, there is a bigger chance of finding a 300bps modem stuck up your ass than you becoming a judge. Sorry.

http://www.box43.net/~doz/ now has a countdown to the DoZ. AFAIK, this works on Box43's system time, but if its going off of your time instead, please tell me, because it'll be reporting wrong (the end date for the subtraction is specified in CDT)

Since it's server-side, I don't see how it could possibly be wrong - since the DoZ begins at the same time for everyone.
