I like the how the temple looks. And that enemy art is pretty impressive as well. Keep it up - I saw this as more of a joke game to begin with, but this is actually looking good so far!

Honestly, I think the temple looks kind of bland. It would be much more interesting with some alcoves and pillars to break up the space a bit. Maybe a fountain in the middle, as well. The cave is really coming along - I like the way you use colors and shadows.

I have no idea where you guys are talking about. I didn't make a temple in LoZ yet, or a cave.
(are you maybe talking about the sword engine?)

I like the way the cave's looking, but I think you should make the boss bigger than 1 char. It's not very hard to make big sprites interact with the player or her sword.

UPDATE: I figured out that a 1x1 player char just wasnt big enough, so I changed it to 2x2! This will allow higher player detail, smoother animations, and it'll fill up the screen a bit more.

The only bad thing about this update, is that everything done with the 1x1 player(which is pretty much) becomes pretty much useless... I'll have to see if i still can use some parts of the old code and start over with the rest.

Okey, i'm now done with the new player character, but i still don't know if i have to keep it this way, or turn back to the old style. Here are the new (left one) and the old (right one) player characters:
Attached Image: monthly_09_2009/post-2067-1252622221.png

As you see, the way the new player character is standing there hasn't changed much, but the thing that matters is that it is now larger and has better details.
Please tell me which one i should use, or how to improve the 2x2 if necessairy.

2x2 link looks like a football player

though legend of zelda football is a nice idea in theory, ganondorf transforming into his pig form would be incredibly cheap, and so whichever team has him has won before the game has even started, making the game considerably less fun

Yeah, if Ganon could do the same move he does as his Brawl Final Smash then it wouldn't be football, it would be broken-arm/leg-ball...

Also:

Link MAH BOI approves of this game!

But remember: the game must contain DINNER for the king! And Zelda MUST DIE! XD

Anyway, i have felt that my 'ability to actually complete stuff' has left me alone again. I just can't find the motivation to get working on LoZ again... Some among you will be realy disappointed about this, but i can't do anything because of this 'sickness'. My apoligies for those who were realy looking forward to this LoZ game.

PS: maybe you guys can re-motivate me, but i personally think the change that this will work will be too small.

One motivation technique that I've learned to get back into the Zeuxing mood is to simply talk about MegaZeux with your friends. Reminiscing about my golden days or old projects of MegaZeux, or talking about how my current project is going certainly increases my motivation to get more of it done, if only a little.

Another way to increase motivation is to look at other people's MZX games. Whether it's surfing through DMZX's game reviews, or downloading them and looking at them that way, most of the time it gets me into the "hey, I can code/design that too" mood, or it gives you more ideas on what kinds of new things you want to put into your game.

My guess is you're probably stuck on a level that you ran out of design ideas for, or the next task you have to do is a lengthy coding job. Am I right?

That last one is what took away my motivation. But still, the main reason i lost motivation is because i have other ideas in mind. (this is also the reason for not completing the sword engine as a entire game)

UPDATE: I've managed to get working on LoZ again! The actual reason for me getting my motivation back is:
Starflight MZX

i'll tell you why: I saw a couple o' days earlier this thread popping up 'cause of a new reply. I started reading this thread from page 1, and i almost fell off my chair. Why? The first post sead: 'Posted on: Aug 14 2001'. I was amazed someone could ever keep working on the same project for 8 years. This gave me hope, 'cause of the effort Risu spent in Starflight MZX, and still works on it.

Thanks Risu, for giving me hope, and for trying to complete Starflight MZX, which i realy look forward to play.

Yeah and I'm still waiting for starcraft 2 to go beta
circle of life

Actually it might interest you to know the original starflight game was in development for 5 years by a team of 5 guys, so if me working by my self finishes the game in less than 25 years I'm ahead of the curve.

Also the first post isn't an accurate date, database screw up a long time ago or something when these boards were moved. SFmzx started development in early 1997 iirc. (the thread I think was started in 2000ish but I'm not 100% certain about that)

I knew you would be able to find some inspiration and get back into the groove eventually. It's nice to see someone making a Zelda game for MZX (c'mon, T-Bone, get back to work on yours!); perhaps it'll be marked as a classic like the others!

UPDATE: i changed back to the old, 1x1 char player. Why? multiple reasons:

No. 1: '2x2 link looks like a football player'

No. 2: After that post this journal's got almost screwed up.

No. 3: One of the reasons which made me almost stop working on LoZ.

No. 4: Just too much char editing to get a proper walking animation.

No. 5: The idea that i would lose all my progress (which is much) with the 1x1 player, making me lose motivation.

No. 6: Turning back to the 1x1 player gave me back my progress and even more motivation than earlier.

I think i've explained enough.

Look, I am working on it, and most important, i did not 'improve' something around here to make this, and even more important, I am actually making a game which people want to play on release, so you should shut up and make a game yourself which takes over an hour to beat, has GOOD graphics, GOOD music and should not be too large because of .WAV files (which are frekin' large, so should only be used as sound effects) that are used as music.

There, now go and do something useful, just like i do with LoZ.
